The Milk Truck Route

UPDATE: The Milk Truck will kick off it’s journey at Diaper-EEZ this morning at 10:30. Next, we putter over to Evymama (approx 10:45). On our way to Islington United Church, we will make a stop at 3735 Dundas Street West, the home of Mandy P., a mom who receives a lot of flack from her community for breastfeeding. Please note that our times are approximate, as we are frequently stopped by pedestrians to talk about our massive boob and breastfeeding (which is the point of this work). We’ll stop at all places, but it’s going to be on Milk Truck time!

Toronto mommas – THANK YOU for answering our questions on Survey Monkey! Your stories and experiences are unique – you each look for different qualities in a “good” breastfeeding location. Some people want a private nursing room, others want to nurse in the open, sans cover, without some pervy dude staring at them. Reading your thoughts has been an honor – and sometimes pretty damn funny.

The Milk Truck will drive the route on THIS MAP in the city of Toronto on Friday, March 23rd. These businesses and public spaces were referenced by Toronto mothers who took our survey called “Breastfeeding in Toronto” in February and March 2012. Our route includes businesses who have been hailed as enthusiastic supporters of nursing mothers, as well as those who have less than desirable track records. Look at the comments posted about each business that you click on – you’ll find texts pulled directly from the surveys.

Toronto or Bust

The Milk Truck had a tune up and is almost ready to hit the road this Thursday! (Fingers, toes, everything crossed that we make it in one piece.)

We’re mapping the route that the truck will drive in Toronto on Friday based on the responses to our survey:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6Q3TSP6
There’s still time to answer the questions, if you have a burning desire to do so. The map is being created today, so hop to it, Mommas!

Also, here’s a bit of Canadian press that we’ve got coming up:
Today:
Radio Humber
Newstalk 1010 with Mike Bullard

Tomorrow:
Chatting with The Motts
CJAD 800 with Ric and Suzanne

And more to come!

Ever breastfed in Toronto?

Yes? Pretty please fill out this anonymous survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6Q3TSP6

Why am I so interested in our northern friends, you ask? The Milk Truck and I will be in Toronto from March 22-26, performing live on the 23rd and giving an artist talk on the 25th.

I am part of an art exhibition about motherhood that is presented by FADO Performance Art Centre held at the Mercer Union Contemporary. For the exhibition, I am collecting stories and experiences from mothers who have breastfed in the city of Toronto. All stories are welcome  - the good, the bad, the ugly. On March 23rd, The Milk Truck will drive around the city of Toronto weaving together a narrative created by the collective voices of breastfeeding mothers. Based on the information received from the survey, The Milk Truck will deliver proclamations and demerits to local businesses by paying visits and retelling mothers’ stories.

Please pass this anonymous survey on to lactation specialists, breastfeeding advocates, and mothers in the Toronto area. Current and previous Toronto residents and visitors are encouraged to respond. Stories from mothers will be read at various locations and businesses in the city – it’s critical that we hear the voices of many mothers!  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6Q3TSP6

Thank you!

Jill Miller

Hello, gorgeous.

We’re doing some major renovations here – from our website to our newly-formed nonprofit business. Please forgive our awkward moments and clunky links. It’s temporary – promise.
